The £140 million project, saw the M60 being widened between Junctions 5 and 8. The Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment (CEEQUAL) award is the result of careful scrutiny into how the scheme was run, which led to an "excellent" rating in 12 categories.
Key issues mentioned in the award citation were recycling, the creation of new wildlife and wetland areas, noise reduction, the planting of 126,000 trees and the relocation of an existing building from the site.
